my innaugural blog post (actually, it's not. i posted first on what is now Janet's blog) ;^)

So, ironically enough, my first post comes from a particularly uncomfortable chair. What a wild, wacky week it has been for us (already)! First, going back to last week, our social worker emails us and asks when we are going out of town- that's it! Then, with a little prodding, we learn she may have a referral for us, but she doesn't know. By Friday, we are going bonkers because we still don't know, but she sets up a meeting with us for Monday, as it turns out, the big day.

Monday, we tootle on down to M'boro (read: speed), and get there 15 minutes early for our meeting. We have a referral! And we have to almost pry the pictures from her hands! I think we both almost lost it when she told us his birthday was the same as my father's. We were prepared for health issues, because we are willing to accept a few. However, his are very minor, not even worth mentioning. I knew as soon as she was done describing them that we had a 99% chance of adopting him, he is so dang cute! Just yesterday, our pediatrician said he was perfect and congratulated us.

Tuesday, we headed to the beach, and the drive was good, a little rain, but still it went by quick. It seems like we have been here for over a week already. (Thanks, again, Sissy for the great place)!

It really seems that God has been behind this adoption for us, because so many things fell into place so easily to make it happen. First, and probably most incredibly, about a year ago, Janet heard of a friend of a friend that had just picked up their baby boy from Korea. We thought, hmm, we were told you could not adopt from Korea in TN. Janet jumped at the chance and called this lady, out of the blue. She directed us to our agency in Murfreesboro (Heaven Sent Children, by the way). We met them back in late '07 and jumped from China. The whole process was so easy, we were approved in late May. Three months later, we have a referral. Praise God!

So, I don't know if it is because we are on vacation, or that God is behind this whole process for us, but we really feel like we are in a good place with this adoption. Elizabeth is excited about her brother, showing off her pictures of him, and happily declaring that she wants to do this and that with/for him.

Finally, Elizabeth asked me if I would wake up by opening just one eye to greet her in the morning. Ah, the thought process of a 5 year old.
