Miscellany from the first day in Korea

Its late and I wanted to comment on our first day. First, the people are very nice. Communication is sometimes difficult. It is cold. Seoul is huge.

Nice people- a Korean friend in Nashville arranged for a friend of hers to meet us at the airport. We thought he was going to help us get to the train or bus, but, no, he drove us to SWS (which is very hard to find). While at the airport, a genteman noticed we could not work the phone and he just came up and offered his cell phone to us to call our friend. Shouldn't we not be surprised? Isn't this the way it is supposed to be?

Not knowing any Korean, other than hello and thank you, it can be hard to get around and ask questions, and know where you are. But, the nice people that know a bit of English more than make up for it.

Temperature wise, it is about like Nashville, but we are near water, so it is a humid cold and it can be bitter. Curiously, many people over here wear their coats open, no gloves, hats, etc. I guess they are used to it.

I think we have seen 0.00004% of Seoul, and a suburb, Anyang. We hope to see more, but it will still be a tiny percentage of the city.

Related: scooter, motorcycle, car and bus drivers (not many SUVs here) drive where they want, when they want, but not extremely fast. I mean, they probably have a long way to go to get where they are going, but street lights, lanes, common direction, curbs? Everything goes, no problem...

Me- Surprised? No. Confused? Yes, and cold.
